  • Movie Title : 2 States
  • Genre: : Romantic Darama
  • Producer :Karan Johar & Sajid Nadiawala
  • Director : Abhishek Varman
  • Casting : Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh, Shiv Ku, Subramaniam & Revanthy
  • Music : Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

The movie is inspired from one of the novels of Chetan Bhagat named as the title of movie. However, the story of the movie is bit outdated, though Director Varman has managed to present a pleasant and colorful piece of beautiful story in a way that will bind the viewers to stick in their seats.

The story is about the Punjabi Guy Krish Malhotra (Arjun) who is studying with Ananya Swaminathan (Alia) in IIM Ahmedabad. To help Ananya in studies, Krish gives Economics classes to Ananya and falls in love with her. However, the story takes interesting turn when the two decides to wed. The two different cultures, family oppositions and emotional blackmailing do follow when Anaya gets placement in Sunsilk Chennai while Krish decides to get placement in Chennai to work for Yes Bank in place of Delhi.

The first half is all about the romance between Krish and Ananya in the IIM Ahmedabad Campus. While the other part is about the spunky Amrita Singh playing role of loud Punjabi mother with a tragic personal life and Ananya’s parents. Both Arjun and Ananya decide to get marry with the permission of parents. They decide that Krish will try to make up with Ananya’s parents while Ananya to make up Krish’s parents. Ronit Roy playing role of Krish’s abusive and alcoholic ex-army man has been given a very important role in the movie to play.

The story moves on to a happy end while sailing through the ups and downs. There are some really nice scenes such Krish’s proposing to Ananya’s entire family to marry him. The cute looking pair Arjun and Alia has given their best in performance which binds the viewers.

Dialogues: “Story mai Hero ho na ho, story Hero honi Chahiye.” Says Krish to Alia when she asks about his desire to become writer. Decent dialogues like “Budhi ho ya jawan, melodrama toh ladkiyo ke khun mai hi hota hai.” And some emotional lines such as “Sirf Pyaar kaafi nahi hota….families bhi zaroori hôte Hai.” The dialogues will be so touchy and live that you can’t sit without relating them.

Characters: The limited characters but really nice work done and all the roles are justified perfectly. Whether the lead roles played by Arjun and Alia or the parents of both the lead characters have literary justified and maintained the typical cultural and traditional tone in their acting and dialogues deliveries.

Costumes & Locations: The colorful outfits using bright colors are really one of the delightful attractions in the movie. The traditional long skirts of Ananya are perfectly matching to the locations of Ahmedabad where the first half of movie is mostly shoot. One the other hand Krish’s outfits are really did great to present a serious type image of the character where hero is shown in the cotton shirts and to give the college going student touch trendy jeans and tees. In Chennai where Krish goes to work in first half itself the locations are mostly the roads and Ananya’s house. Even in the movie it is said “South Indians’ hearts are as empty as their houses.” The nice cinematography by Binod Pradhan has made the scens just look perfect as the scene where the ‘Madrasi’ family with Krish is taking dinner and the camera from the ceiling focus on the scene. Some really nice shots of city side views of Lal Darwaja (Ahmedabad), Sea View and beach side (Mumbai), Roads, sea coast and specially the temple at the sea coast where in the climax wedding is performed are really nice locations to give a real time experience as if viewers are given a real h

Music: The melodious, sweet, lovely, amazing are just few words to describe the music in the movie specially the background music is the one delightful treat to ears. We go on a musical ride again and again whether it is the Tamil musical background at Ananya’s place, or in her father’s car has helped in maintaining the traditional touch. The same magic happens when it is Krish’s cousin’s wedding.  All the six lovely tracks of the movie are awesome. The most played and liked tracks are “Locah e Ulfat”, “Man Mast Magan” and “Chandaniya”. The lyrics are really interesting thanks to Amitabh Bhattacharya.

So overall, movie stands at 3.5 on the scale of 5. A sweet, entertaining and melodious love story that has everything. The climax is expected but the movie binds the viewers with the plot development and dialogues. And yes gone without saying, the beautiful chemistry of Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is really magical and worth appreciating. Hope movie will surely do good on box office.

1. Main Tera Hero

  • Movie Title : Main Tera Hero
  • Genre: : Romantic Comedy
  • Producer : Sobha & Ekta Kapoor
  • Director : David Dhawan
  • Casting : Varun Dhawan, Nargis Fakri, & Ileana D’Cruz
  • Music : Sajid-Wajid

This movie is stuffed with romance, comedy, action and what not. Gone unsaid all that hard work that Varun has put in his this second movie after giving the super duper hit Student of the Year.

The movie begins with the layabout and cheesy Seenu (Varun Dhawan) falling in love with Sunaina (Ileana) who is already imperiled by a cop Angad (Arunoday Singh) who turns to be the villain in the movie. Things become complicated and more tragic with the entry of Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri).

The same traditional old days’ story of Villain Vs Hero or Love triangle is what Main Tera Hero is all about. Without lifting even a book, the hero floats around in college is the old bollywood chewed up funda, you won’t see even a classroom.

Gone are the days, when David Dhawan’s Govinda type comedy used to work out. The Sallu-Chichi combo Varun though have tried almost everything to please like, dance, comedy, romance, topping it up with action, silly dialogues deliveries and topless poses. The movie is not too horrible just due to the seriously silly acting of Varun especially for the first half it can be a onetime watch. Rest the film is just stuffed with antics about ladies and projecting the body parts and that fat guy in wheelchair are all useless unsightly moments. The second half is just a 20 min worth watching.

Dialogues: “Purani Haveli ke pass Chikni Chameli.” One more lols “Ek popat ki do do maina, kabhi Ayesha to kabhi Sunaina. In the first hour only Seenu while talking to his mother says” Ma, even if I don’t bring Degree home, I will assure bringing a wife.” Either these dialogues will tamp you down or you will just be laughing at all “bajaana” type dialogues in the movie wondering if anything can go worse than this further.

Characters: Varun has always been appreciated for his charming and innocent on screen performance and the same magic has worked in Mai Tera Hero, you won’t be able to keep your eyes off him. He has also done the mimicry of Sahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, like Top stars in the film. As expected from the David Dhawan’s actresses like Karishama and Raveena, we had the higher expectations from Illeana, but her loose performance has just disappointed. While Nargis could not make her impression at all in the movie, we could hardly Notice her in the entire movie. So both the actresses are nothing more than just the glamdolls. Arunoday Singh could be much better but the role given to him was limited. Anupam Kher, Evelyn Sharma, Saurabh Shukla, Rajpal Yadav all have just been the passengers in the movie have come up for the small roles and then just lost never to come back.

Costumes & Locations: Most of the shooting of Main Tera Hero is done in Bangkok, London and some locations of India. The locations are pretty well organized. Though in Indian marriage in India what are the White background dancers doing is a a logical question. However, as far as costume is concerned, Varun’s outs are completely going with his character well. Both the ladies are mostly seen in the twin outfits wondering why. Others are just fit to be with and hardly make difference due to their limited performance in the movie.

Music: The music is as expected very pleasant. The musical magic of Sajid-Wajid leaves an impression in the mind and we are forced to croon the tracks especially, Saari Night besharmi ki height.. and Tera Heero Idhara hai. The soft music and sweet melody has made it all. Above all Varun dancing on the tracks has added in the entertainment.

Overall, A movie of weekend watch time pass movie. One the scale of 5, the movie can be given 3 star rating, out of which 2 is just for the performance, looks and smiles of Varun Dhawan. Varun, waiting for your next movies forward, needless to mention, don’t repeat it again.
